# Organising portals

Keep a growing list of Portals in order.

One Portal needs no organising. A dozen does — built by different people, for different audiences, some live and some long finished.

## Finding one

The Portals list has a **Search** box, and filters for **Type** and **Status**. Status is the useful one: the list shows active Portals by default, so archived ones are out of the way until you ask for them.

## Labels

Labels classify Portals however suits you — by team, by campaign, by client. Add one from a Portal's menu, then use labels to narrow the list.

Worth agreeing a small set of labels before anyone starts. Labels invented ad hoc stop being useful at about the point they become necessary.

## Cloning

**Clone** copies a Portal with its pages, sections, colours, fonts and settings — the fastest way to start a Portal that should resemble one you already have.

The copy lands in the same project, as a draft, so you can work on it without anyone seeing it.

## Archiving

**Archive** takes a Portal out of the active list without deleting it. Archived Portals are not reachable by visitors, and can be **Restore**d at any time.

Archive rather than delete when something has simply ended — a campaign, a season, a partnership. You keep the work, and the option of bringing it back.

{% hint style="info" %}
A Portal set as the project's [default portal](/portals/all-portals/settings/default-portal.md) cannot be archived until you choose a different default — otherwise visitors arriving at your address would land nowhere.
{% endhint %}

## Deleting

**Delete** is permanent. Archive first if there is any doubt.
