# Font size

Make a word or phrase larger or smaller than its text level.

Font size nudges a piece of text above or below the size of its own text level, useful for a lead sentence, a caption, or a word that needs weight.

## Change the size of text

1. Select the text. The **Font size** control stays greyed out until you do.
2. Open **Font size**.
3. Choose an option.

| Option | Effect |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| **Smaller** | Much smaller than the level's size |
| **Small** | Slightly smaller |
| **Original (default)** | No change — the level's own size |
| **Large** | Slightly larger |
| **Larger** | Much larger |

## It's relative, not fixed

Each option is a proportion of the text's own level rather than a fixed size. If you later change that level's size under **Style** → **Typography**, text you've adjusted keeps its proportions and moves with it.

That makes **Font size** the right tool for one word or phrase. To change every piece of text of a kind, change the level's size instead or move the text to a different level.
