# Horizontal lines

Insert a divider between blocks of text.

A horizontal line is a divider you can drop into a block of text to separate one idea from the next; useful in a long passage where a new section heading would be too heavy.

## Insert a horizontal line

1. Place the cursor where you want the divider to sit.
2. Select **Horizontal line** in the toolbar.

## Remove a horizontal line

Select the line — it highlights to show it is selected — then press **Backspace** or **Delete**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Horizontal lines are available on paragraph text, not on headings. If the button isn't there, change the text level to a paragraph.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
You can't edit or style the line itself; it takes its appearance from your Portal's design.
