# System pages

The pages every Portal comes with for signing in, registering and getting help.

Every Portal is created with a set of system pages already in place. You don't add or remove them — the Portal uses whichever its [access settings](/portals/portal-settings/access.md) call for — but you can change how they look and what they ask for.

## The pages

| Page                                                                              | When a visitor sees it                                                    |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Login using account** | The Portal requires people to register or be invited. |
| **Login as guest** | The Portal is password-protected and they are entering the shared phrase. |
| [**Registration**](/portals/building-a-portal/pages/system-pages/registration.md) | They are creating an account.                                             |
| **Request access** | They are asking for access without creating an account yet. |
| **Request has been sent** | Straight after they submit a request. |
| **Thank you page** | They need to validate their email to finish registering. |
| **Forgot password** | They are setting a new password from a reset email. |
| **MFA verification** | Multi-factor verification is on and they are entering a code. |
| **Help** | They follow the help link from any of the above. |

{% hint style="info" %}
There's a tenth, **Age verification**, but it isn't created with the others — it appears only when you turn the age gate on under [Access and security](/portals/portal-settings/access.md).
{% endhint %}

## Editing a system page

System pages are built from sections like any other page, so you can change their copy, images and buttons directly on the canvas. What you cannot do is clone, hide or delete them — the Portal needs them.

Their **design is shared**: choosing a layout variant on one applies it to all of them at once. The variant switcher says so — *Applies to all 9 login system pages.*

## Editing a form

The pages that collect information — sign in, registration, request access, forgot password — are built around a form, and you decide what it asks for.

1. Select the form on the page.
2. Choose the pencil icon — **Edit form fields**.
3. Make your changes and select **Save**.
4. Select **Publish changes** to make them live.

In **Edit form** you can:

| Control             | What it does                                                                                         |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Show labels** | Shows or hides the labels above each field. With them off, the placeholder text carries the meaning. |
| **Fields** | The fields, in order. Drag the handle to reorder them. |
| **…** on a field    | Edit or remove that field.                                                                           |
| **+ Add new field** | Adds a field of your own. |
| **Submit button** | The text on the button — up to 40 characters. |

## Adding a field

**+ Add new field** walks through a few steps, depending on the type.

**Field settings** — the **Type**, a **Name**, the **Label** a visitor reads, and a **Placeholder**. You can also connect the field to **Available user attributes**, so what someone enters is stored against them rather than just submitted.

The types available are text, email, password, number, telephone, date, a longer **Textarea**, a **Select**, a **Checkbox** and a **Radio group**.

**Select options** or **Radio settings** — for a select or radio group, the choices. Each has a **Label** and a **Value**; **Add option** adds more. At least one is required.

**Field validation** — whether it is a **Required field**, and optionally a **Set minimum characters limit** and **Set maximum character limit**.

{% hint style="info" %}
If **Available user attributes** is empty, there are no user attributes to connect to yet — they are created in Asset Hub, not here.
{% endhint %}

## Editing an existing field

The **…** menu on a field opens **Edit text field** or **Edit selector**, depending on what it is. The settings are the same ones you set when adding it: label, name, placeholder, whether it is required, the character limits, and the options for a selector.

Every field works this way — the [Terms & Conditions](/portals/building-a-portal/pages/system-pages/registration/terms-and-conditions.md) field is the exception, with settings of its own.

## Good to know

* Ask for as little as you need. Each extra field is another reason someone abandons the form.
* Field labels and placeholders are content, so they are stored per language and need translating like everything else.
* Removing a field from the registration form does not remove data already collected.
