# Registration

The page where visitors create an account for your Portal.

When your Portal requires people to register before they can get in, this is the page they fill in. The form is yours to shape — which details you ask for, what the button says, and whether visitors have to accept your terms first.

## What it asks for by default

Email, first name, last name, and a password with confirmation. Add, remove and reorder these as you need — **System pages**, one level up, covers how to edit a form.

Ask for as little as you actually need. Every extra field is another reason for someone to give up before they finish.

The password field shows a strength meter as a visitor types, listing the rules their password must meet.

## Terms & Conditions

You can add a checkbox that visitors must tick before they can register, with a link to the terms it refers to. See [Terms & Conditions](/portals/building-a-portal/pages/system-pages/registration/terms-and-conditions.md).

## Registering by invitation

Someone arriving from an invitation email reaches the same page, with their email already filled in and locked — they only set a password.

## After someone registers

Whether a new registration needs approving, and who receives it, is set in the Portal's [access settings](/portals/portal-settings/access.md) rather than on this page. With approval on, the visitor is told their request was sent rather than being let straight in.
