# Portal settings

Decide who can open a Portal, who is notified about it, and how it is organised.

Building a Portal is one job; deciding who gets to see it is another. These pages cover everything outside the builder — the Portal's own details, the content it keeps, who can get in, how they sign in, and what they did once they were there.

## Getting there

From **All portals**, hover the Portal's card. **Edit** and **Settings** appear over its preview — choose **Settings**, and the Portal opens on its **General** tab with the rest of the settings listed down the side.

If you're already building the Portal, **Settings** at the bottom of the builder sidebar goes to the same place.

An archived Portal shows neither **Edit** nor **Settings** on hover — only its **…** menu. Restore it first; see [Organising portals](/portals/all-portals/organising-portals.md).

These are the settings of **one Portal**. The **Settings** item on the Portals list is a different screen — preferences that apply across the whole project, like the default Portal. See [Settings](/portals/all-portals/settings.md).
