Managing your templates

The templates list is the front door of Template Builder: every template in the project, newest first, with its thumbnail and when it last changed.

Finding a template

  • Search filters by name as you type.

  • Sort offers: last modified, oldest modified, name A-Z, name Z-A, newest created, oldest created.

  • The count above the grid tells you how many templates match, and long lists are paged.

What you can do with a template

Hover a card and its actions appear. Edit template and Manage variations are the two buttons in the middle; the rest sit in the corner, with the full set under the options menu.

Previewing

Preview renders the default layout, full screen, using the values the template carried when it was last saved. A variable that has never been given a value shows its default. Use the arrows or the left and right arrow keys to move between templates without leaving the preview, and Esc to close it.

To see the template with other values, create a variation - its preview updates as you type.

Renaming and duplicating

Neither is an action on the list, and that is worth stating plainly:

  • To rename, open the template and use Save as new file with the new name, then delete the old one if you no longer need it. Renaming the asset in the DAM also works, though links that used the old name will break.

  • To duplicate, open the template and use Save as new file. You get an independent copy, leaving the original alone. It goes in the original's folder unless you choose another.

Both are covered in Preview and save.

Deleting

Delete asks you to confirm and cannot be undone. The variations saved from the template go with it, because they belong to the same file.

Templates in the DAM

A template is an asset in your library, so everything you already do with assets applies: it appears in search, sits in a folder, respects permissions, and keeps versions and approvals. Open in library takes you straight to it, and saving from the editor writes a new version of the same file.
