# Welcome

Build a branded site around the assets in your DAM, and share it with the people who need them.

A Portal is a website you build from the assets already in your DAM. Rather than emailing files around or handing people a folder, you give them an address — a brand hub, a press room, a product catalogue, a partner library — that stays in step with the DAM as its contents change.

## Two sides to a Portal

Everything in this section is about one side or the other, so it is worth knowing which you are on.

| **The builder** | Where you put a Portal together: pages, sections, colours, typography, and what visitors are allowed to do. Only your team sees it. |
| **The viewer**  | What visitors get: the published Portal, the galleries, the search and filters, the downloads.                                      |

A setting in the builder almost always shows up as something a visitor can or cannot do — so the two halves of these docs cross-reference each other rather than repeat.

## A few words worth knowing

| Word             | Means                                                                                                                   |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Project**      | The workspace your Portals live in. Portals, audiences and datasets belong to a project, and you work in one at a time. |
| **Section**      | A block of a page — a hero, a gallery, a set of downloads. Pages are built by stacking them.                            |
| **Gallery**      | The section that shows assets from your DAM, with search, filters and downloads.                                        |
| **System pages** | The pages a Portal comes with for signing in, registering and getting help.                                             |
| **Publish**      | Nothing you change reaches visitors until you publish it.                                                               |
